Sand Dunes and Dunluce Castle
[Kyle]We left our beautiful Murlough Bay anchorage for what ended up being a pretty cool day of fun sailing along the north coast of Ireland. We put a reef in the mainsail and two in the jib in order to allow for pretty heavy gusts and then stayed right up against the cliffs the whole way. We passed around Fair Head, along cliffs that look like green Arizona, by Kinbane Head with its castle ruin, around the corner to the Carrick-a-rede footbridge and the Giant’s Causeway. We then passed under Dunluce Castle, past cliffs and sand dunes until eventually anchoring in deep water with the stern insanely close to several rocky islets called the Skerries. (We used the engine to tug and tug on our rode, though, and we would be safely in no less than 6M of water.) The Islands are uninhabited by people and are home to Gulls, Guillemots, Cormorants and one adorable family of seals.
