Antrim Coastal Path

[Kyle]We finally got out and had a proper walk. The weather was beautiful and for the first time since being in Ireland, I wore shorts and a t-shirt all day!

Coastal Walk

We headed out from the boat to the top of the farthest hill that we could see. The trail took us via the Bushmill Steam Railway route for the first couple of miles to the Giant’s Causeway. From there, we joined the trail that runs along the top of the cliffs. We followed that for two or three more miles. Adding to our other visits, we have managed to see the Causeway from about every conceivable perspective. As usual, I would get to one point and then decide that I just had to continue on to the next one. Every time, we were rewarded with spectacular views of Green Arizona. In a few places, it was possible to lie down on the ground and stick our heads over the edges of the cliffs and see straight down. Wow!

We encountered one young guy who managed to be persuaded by his friend to stand on a pinnacle about two feet around that could only be reached by making a short hop from a patch of slippery grass. Maryanne tried to persuade me to stand on it for a picture but once I got a closer look at it, I thought the better of it. That hop could only be done by someone with nerves of steel on a no wind day. I hate to think of what would have happened if the guy had overshot.

Crazy location for a pose, and looking down on the Giants Causeway from waaaay up there

As always, your photographs are simply jaw-dropping. The country does look like a green version of Arizona. Kyle, I'm so proud of you for foregoing the "hop" to the rock outcropping for a photo op. Of all the deaths in the Grand Canyon every year (and there are many), some 70% of them occur when ADULTS (not kids, who are always yelled at to stay away from the edge) pose for a photo, turn their backs on the canyon, and fall to their deaths. It happens over and over again. So I'm glad the young man was okay, but yikes...this is something to be wary of. And Maryanne told you to do it? Hmmm...

Even without stunts, your photography is spectacular, as is the scenery. You have probably toured enough distilleries by now to skip straight to the tasting room. What on earth will you do while in Scotland? It's like trying to tour Napa Valley without getting drunk on your behind by the third winery.

Is there any chance at all you're going to return to work? Just asking.

Missing you but so glad you're having such a wonderful time in that gorgeous country. I also love the steam train, but those are the funniest looking cars I've ever seen. Still, a steam train is a wondrous thing.

Glad to hear that you are officially 'cleared in' and (hopefully) legal. I guess two months of touring the pubs finally caught up with you- eh?

What are your plans for the fall/winter? Will Kyle go back to work? Stay tuned for these and other imponderables....
