Baie de Prony, Casy Island

[Kyle]After Careenage Bay, we headed downstream to Ile Casy. The island is a nature reserve with eight free moorings for visitors. We did the loop trail past half a dozen pretty beaches then crossed over the center, where there is some pretty interesting geology, mainly mud pool look-a-likes and spectacularly colored clay. It looked like the thermal areas of Yellowstone or New Zealand’s North Island on a smaller scale.

We didn’t actually manage to see many of the island’s interesting birds. They are very flitty and seem to love to hide in dense foliage. At sunset, they all started chirping goodnight to each other and the air filled with song.

We forgot to take a camera ashore - but this is from the anchorage (oh so calm)

{Maryanne: This beautiful island has clearly marked trails, but for years the highlight for cruisers was the only resident, a dog called Moose: he would great cruisers and seem to lead them on a tour of 'his' island. Unfortunately he died in December 2018 after 14 years of playing host on the island. If you are yearning for some photos of the island, and of Moose, you can visit this blog post: Two At Sea, written by some of our cruising friends that went ahead of us.}

Sweet pupper Moose! I'm sorry you missed him - but what a gorgeous little island! A special place indeed.
