Laurieton (Camden Head)

[Kyle]The next leg was a short one so for once we didn’t have to wake up in the dark. We were also at a mooring ball with a good view of the entrance bar. Once we saw that it was calm, we decided we could leave under sail.

Sailing with dolphins, and arriving in Laurieton

That was a nice start. Then we saw loads of dolphins along the way. We had maybe three pods of twenty that would swim with us for a while, then peel off to go fishing after handing us off to the next one. It was great!

We managed to find another public mooring at Laurieton, in the Camden river, in time to rush ashore and take in a movie at the beautifully decorated local cinema: the Plaza Theatre. {Maryanne: We watched 'Ford v Ferrari' and both really enjoyed it, the theater itself was really nice too}

Laurieton is a sleepy town, especially on a Sunday night, but we managed to find a good Indian restaurant who did a respectable job of trying to make spicy food. We then walked it off with a sunset stroll along the river, where we enjoyed watching the parrots roost for the night.

We were up early again for a long walk to Camden head and the Kattang Nature Reserve. Even though the day was hot and it was a long way, we managed to tramp every trail within and look out from each viewpoint. The find of the day went to Maryanne. She spotted a slightly denser patch in the leaves of a gum tree about ten stories up. On closer examination, it turned out to be a koala. She had found a real wild koala! Wouldn’t you know it, that’s when the battery on our camera with the good zoom decided it just couldn’t go on anymore. Anyway, we watched it for a while while it went around being cute. That’s like saying we watched water being wet. Of course it was cute! It’s a koala.

OK - so not the best picture - but our first wild Koala sighting!!!!

A beautiful day for a walk
